Poets Trail: Forkill Loop

The route follows the Urney Graveyard Funeral Public Footpath from Forkhill to the historic graveyard where the poet Peadar O'Doirnin is buried. The route then follows country lanes through Glendesha Forest and around the mountains of Croslieve and Sliebrack back to Forkhill.  NB walkers should be careful on any of the larger roads connecting the smaller ones.

Route Description

Turn South-West down Main Street from the Welcome Inn, Forkhill. Continue for 0.5 miles Just past the Fairgreen Stores turn down a track on the left. Continue for 1 mile until a footbridge over the Forkhill River. Turn right on a path to the Urney Graveyard. Follow the lane to the T junction and turn right.

Follow the lane through the cross-roads for 1 mile. Keep left and take a right turn in to Glendesha Road. Follow for 2 miles. At the end of the road turn right on to Upper Road. After 0.5 miles turn right on to Church Road. Continue past Forkhill Church of Ireland Church back to Forkhill Village.
