CWLs battle the summer showers at Learmount!

Eager community leaders and volunteers battled the elements during a recent Community Walk Leader training course, Saturday 2nd August 2014 at Learmount Forest, Co. Derry~Londonderry.

Despite the wet and windy conditions, this fantastic group of participants joined forces to enable them to make a difference in their local community. They learnt about the vital skills needed to  lead safe community walks and were equipped with navigation, route planning and map reading skills as well as essential tips on how to start up and manage a successful community walking group.

Caitlin Barbour from the Bytes Project commented about the training day saying “It was really educational and an enjoyable day. Looking forward to setting up my walking group.”

Walking In Your Community Marketing Officer Nicola Cully also added “It was great to see so many interested parties take part in this course at Learmount Forest. Despite the bad weather, everyone remained enthusiastic and I am sure they will use what they have learnt today to make a difference in their local community and set up a walking programme that will improve the health and wellbeing of the community as a whole."
