Funding Secured for Walking In Your Community!

It has just been announced that Outdoor Recreation NI has been awarded funding under Sport NI’s Active Clubs programme.

This superb source of funding will enable the continuation of the Walking In Your Community scheme, as well as forging a partnership between Outdoor Recreation NI and the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs. The two organisations will work in tandem over the next four years to achieve the project’s objectives, which focus on increasing participation in walking and hiking among young people and women, as well targeting specific disadvantaged areas across Northern Ireland.

Richard Gawith, Training and Development Officer at Outdoor Recreation commented “We are delighted to have received this superb source of funding from Sport NI that will help develop the Walking In Your Community scheme further. At present there are variety of barriers that currently prevent certain sections of society from accessing opportunities to go walking. Through this the Walking In Your Community programme we aim to tackle these barriers through a comprehensive menu of leadership training, communal provision of basic equipment, information sharing, and the establishing of a progressive pathway along which groups and individuals can travel as their confidence and experience grows.”
