Tall Ships & Community Walk Leader Training

Crawfordsburn Country Park hosts Community Walk Leader Training Day on Thursday 2nd July for Community Leaders and Volunteers.

As the tall ships made their way into Belfast Harbour for this years festival Walking In Your Community had an action packed day training up the latest batch of Community Walk Leaders on the shores of Belfast Lough.

This successful training day enabled participants to learn the necessary skills needed to lead short, safe and accessible walks with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Topics covered during this training day included navigation and map reading skills as well as some useful information to set up and run an active walking group.

A highlight of the day for all those attending was practivally applying their new skills during a group walk around Crawfordsburn Country Park with course tutor John McMahon.

Walking In Your Community Co Ordinator Jayne Woodrow commented following the event "It's great to see our new Community Walk Leaders leave feeling confident and keen to start walking groups in their local community. This training also saw a number of young adults aged between 18 and 25 successfully completing their training".
