Mid Ulster District Council is to consult on the future development of Davagh Forest as a space for outdoor recreation.

Already offering superb mountain bike trails, this forest has been identified as an area with potential for enhanced leisure activities, from walking to experiencing the ‘dark skies’ at night and a public meeting is being held on Wednesday 9th September to now explore further development ideas with the local community and interested individuals.

“Having been established as a key visitor attraction in the heart of the Sperrins, Davagh Forest has enormous potential for further sympathetic development and this is an opportunity for the local community to give us their views before we progress to undertaking economic appraisals of the options and identifying sources of funding" said Councillor Frances Burton, Chair of Mid-Ulster District Council’s Development Committee.

This public consultation is being facilitated on behalf of the Council by Outdoor Recreation NI, who will present initial proposals for feedback and discussion.

Outdoor Recreation NI’s, Chris Scott, explains, “As an organisation we have a wealth of experience in managing and developing outdoor recreation and without question, Davagh Forest holds incredible tourism potential. However we believe passionately that any new developments must ultimately meet the needs and demands of those who will be enjoying the forest in the future. This is the time for people to share their opinions with us and so we would encourage mountain bikers and indeed members of the local community to join us at this consultation."

This public meeting will be held in the Broughderg Community Centre on Wednesday 9th September and will be split into two sessions.
