Local Olympic & Paralympic Athletes to take part in parkrun

UK Sport are delighted to annouce an exciting new partnership this year with parkrun and the National Lottery.

On Saturday 19th August paralympic and olympic athletes will be joining in with local parkruns volunteering as tail walkers. It is the ambition that in addition, where the athlete is willing to look to do some work within the local community to encourage local participants to participate in their local parkrun.

No-one ever finishes last in a parkrun and in order to encourage as many first timers UK Sport have volunteered the athletes to take on the role of 'tail walker' a role which ensures no one ever finishes last!

UK Sport believe this will be a hugely powerful symbol in breaking down barriers to potential local participants and enable people to engage with our athletes as they run and walk the course with Olympians and Paralympians, normally synonymous with crossing the line first, all finishing last to encourage the nation to get active.
