Peatlands Park CWLs step into action!

The idyllic surroundings of Peatlands Park was the chosen location for yet another fantastic Community Walk Leader training course, Thursday 15th May 2014. This fantastic training day was run in order to allow community leaders and volunteers the opportunity to learn about the vital skills needed to lead short safe and accessible walks in their local area.

Community Walk leaders from across Co. Tyrone made the short trip to this Dungannon hotspot where they were equipped with fundamental walking skills including map reading and route planning. It also installed them with the confidence needed to start up and manage an active community walking group that would inevitably benefit the health and wellbeing of the community as a whole.

Local Dungannon man Sean Skeffington thought the course itself was “excellent” while newly qualified Community Walk Leader Jemma O’Kane noted “The training course was a very good and interesting day. Both tutors Margaret and Richard were very helpful, enthusiastic and accommodating. It was a very enjoyable day and very worthwhile!”

Richard Gawith, Training and Development Officer at Walking In Your Community also added “It was great to see these Community Walk Leaders stride out with confidence after the training day at Peatlands Park. The group represented a diverse range of community organisations, from the Alzheimer’s Society, to Rural Area Partnerships and Environmental Organisations, and I look forward to hearing about the work they do with their new Community Walk Leader award.”
