Albert Johnston, Kilbride Ramblers

Albert Johnston, Community Walk Leader from Kilbride Ramblers joined the Walking In Your Community programme after completing his training during the Summer of 2013.

Since then, his Walking In Your Community Journey kicked off with a bang when he set up a low level terrain walking group under the scheme. Albert set up 2 levels of walking groups depending on capability. He carried out a range of walks ranging from 1.5 mile to 3 miles to a variety of locations including Divis and Black Mountain, Cave Hill, Jordanstown Coastal Path as well as a variety of local roads around the Ballyclare area.

When asked about the programme Albert stated " I joined to brush up on my Walking skills and to gain confidence working with people and groups. Within the Kilbride Ramblers there are a range of people aging from 50 - 70 years old with different health problems, some walk slower and some have arthritis so it's about being aware of their needs."

Already the group has carried out a total 14 walks with this number set to rise throughout the course of the year. Albert shows great enthusiasm and determination to make the programme a success within his walking group which is a brilliant boost for the scheme.
