Cookstown facilitates CWL training day

Community Walk Leaders gathered at Cookstown Leisure Centre, Thursday 13th February 2014 to participate in a Red Cross training course that would enable them to safely lead walks within their Community.

Even though the snowy weather covered the Sperrins region making travel arrangements difficult, Community Walk Leaders were determined to make the icy journey to participate in this valuable half day training course.

Overall, this programme was a superb opportunity for participants to gain the vital skills needed to deal with emergency situations when out walking. The interactive training provided them with essential information and allowed them to participate in hands on training re-enacting real life situations.

Marketing Officer Nicola Cully commented “This was another fantastic course run by the Walking In Your Community team and the Red Cross. Community Walk Leaders are now full of confidence and are walking away with key skills to deal with any emergency situation when out walking and even in everyday life.”

If you are a Community Walk Leader and are yet to receive your First Aid training qualification, be sure to check out the Events and Training section of the Walking In Your Community website for upcoming courses near you. Alternatively you can email Nicola at or call 028 903 03930.
